Where tradition meets tech

Whirlpool’s Kalakriti refrigerators are an artfully crafted ode to Indian heritage

In a world of minimalist appliances and brushed steel sameness, Whirlpool India is turning up the temperature on design. Enter Whirlpool’s new Kalakriti lineup – a line of glass-door refrigerators, where heritage doesn’t just sit in the background, it takes center stage on your kitchen floor.

Blending function with folklore, Whirlpool’s Kalakriti Collection reimagines the humble refrigerator as a cultural artefact. Think, a fridge inspired by the gilded intricacy of temple jewellery, or one that nods to the luxe tactility of Indian embroidery.

According to Whirlpool India’s Vice President of Marketing, Nakul Tewari, the Kalakriti series is made for “the contemporary Indian who wants to showcase pride in our rich heritage”, and who doesn’t mind doing that through a home appliance.

Whirlpool Kalakriti refrigerators: What you need to know

Whirlpool’s Kalakriti comes in two visual signatures – Swarna, which is inspired by handcrafted gold ornaments that shimmer through Indian weddings and festivals, and Karigari, which is a tribute to the intricate embroidery that defines Indian textile heritage.

Both designs are available across Frost-Free and Direct Cool models, ranging from 192L to 259L capacities, starting at an accessible Rs 19,080. It’s a statement piece that chills your lassi and flexes your design sensibility in equal measure.

But this isn’t just about pretty doors. Whirlpool is clearly positioning itself at the intersection of art and utility; what it calls “premiumisation with purpose”. That means pairing high-end aesthetics with reliable performance, all while tapping into a deeper emotional thread – cultural pride.

In a landscape where AI-driven TVs and voice-assistant microwaves are vying for our attention, Whirlpool’s move feels refreshingly analogue, and all the more impactful for it.

So, if you’ve been looking to upgrade your kitchen tech with a touch of homegrown heritage, Kalakriti might just be your next aesthetic (and appliance) obsession. For more updates around home appliances and electronics, stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma.
