Wimbledon introduces AI-powered chat to keep track of all the action

Wimbledon, the premiere tennis tournament has kicked off. But if you’ve been finding it hard to keep up with all the action, there’s a cool new AI tech that is coming to the rescue. Wimbledon and IBM have collaborated for a new feature called ‘Match Chat’, which is an AI-powered assistant that is able to quickly answer fans’ questions about the match that they’re watching.

What is Wimbledon’s Match Chat?

It is basically an AI chatbot that tennis fans can engage with either via preset prompts or their own questions. You can easily ask questions like, “Who is performing better in the match?” or “Who has converted more break points in the match?”, and the chatbot will give an immediate response.

The chatbot uses its AI capabilities and all the tennis data with IBM to provide quick and detailed responses and analysis. The AI is also trained on the Wimbledon app editorial style, which results in better and more natural responses. Fans will be able to access the chatbot during matches, and in some high-profile battles, post-match as well.

“The innovations we have introduced in recent years, driven by generative AI, in conjunction with IBM, allow us to provide more exciting ways for our hundreds of millions of fans around the world to interact with The Championships,” says Usama Al-Qassab, Marketing & Commercial Director at the All England Club

The Match Chat is accessible via the IBM Slamtracker on the official Wimbledon app, which can be downloaded via the App Store or the Google Play Store. Alternatively, it can also be accessed on the wimbledon.com website.

The tournament has already kicked off, and will go on till July 13.
