5 iOS 18 features that are coming to your iPhones soon

Apple’s annual developer’s conference, WWDC 2024, is just around the corner. In fact, the brand recently also confirmed the event by launching a dedicated YouTube channel. Along with everything set to be announced is the landmark iOS 18 update, which has a lot of crucial features up its sleeve. While a lot still remains under wrap, there are a handful of features that Apple has confirmed with various announcements. We have rounded up some of them; check them out below:

5 iOS 18 features you might want to look out for

iOS 17 gave us plenty of useful features. Beginning from Stolen Device Protection to sideloading of apps and updated emojis — there was a lot in store for users this year. However, iOS 18 looks to be promising with multiple new developments in store for iPhone users. Here are some confirmed to come to your devices with the new update:

1. RCS messages
2. AI-driven everything
3. Home screen revamp
4. Apple ID rebrand
5. New emojis

1. RCS messages

Earlier this year, Apple announced of its plans to adopt RCS messages for iPhones in 2024. With iOS 18, iPhones may finally be able to have group messages, high-quality photos, videos and location-sharing abilities with Android users.

But if you’re worried about losing your Memoji and other iMessage exclusive features, don’t worry; Apple has ensured they will remain intact for you even after the change.

2. AI-driven everything

Smartphone makers have not shied away from harnessing AI technology, and while Apple may seem late to the party, iOS 18 looks promising with AI-driven features for the iPhones. However, you might still have to wait for a milestone update, as the brand seems to be only incorporating features such as auto-completing and summarising for apps, better playlist creation and Siri’s integration with AI for the upcoming year.

3. Home screen revamp

Your iPhone home screen may soon have an exciting design overhaul, as iOS 18 is rumoured to allow users to fully customise their home screen apps. The update is likely to give users the free hand to insert blank rows and columns between apps. This means you will be able to freely arrange icons, something that was repeatedly requested to Apple over a course of years.

4. Apple ID rebrand

Apple seems to be working on changing ‘Apple ID’ to Apple Account. While it is still unclear as to why Apple is incorporating this change, it seems to be in line with larger business developments that it could be planning in the next few years.

5. New emojis

Lastly, iOS 18 will surely bring in a collection of new emojis with its update. While iOS 17 gave fun new additions (read: lime emoji and shaking head), there is a good chance that the new update will top these up or improve the existing one with iOS 18.
