Android 16 April update rolls out for Pixel phones, brings critical fixes

The latest update for Android has started rolling out, bringing a new set of security fixes and system improvements. Alongside the bulletin, eligible Pixel devices are also receiving the April 2026 patch with a focus on stability and bug fixes.

Android 16 April 2026 security update explained

The April 2026 Android Security Bulletin highlights a critical vulnerability within the framework component that could lead to a denial of service without requiring user interaction. This issue is considered severe as it can be triggered locally without additional permissions, making timely updates important for affected devices.

In total, the update addresses multiple vulnerabilities across different patch levels. The 2026-04-01 patch resolves the critical framework flaw, while the 2026-04-05 patch includes additional high-severity issues linked to components such as StrongBox. These vulnerabilities impact various hardware layers, with fixes provided through coordinated updates across ecosystem partners.

Google has also emphasised that built-in protections like Google Play Protect continue to reduce risks by monitoring harmful apps and alerting users when needed. The company recommends installing the latest updates to benefit from these safeguards and improved platform security.

Pixel devices receive April 2026 update

Google has begun rolling out the update to a wide range of Pixel devices, including models from Pixel 6 up to the Pixel 10 series. The rollout is part of the Android 16 QPR3 update cycle and carries build version CP1A.260405.005 for global units.

Beyond security fixes, the update also addresses several usability issues. It resolves problems with app crashes in banking and third-party applications, fixes missing UI elements like the quick search bar, and improves system stability in areas such as Wi-Fi file sharing and gaming performance. These changes aim to deliver a more consistent experience across supported devices.
