Earlier this January, Apple announced its second-generation AirTag with an upgraded ultrawide-band chip, improved precision finding, and few more features. Now the Cupertino-based tech giant is rolling out a firmware update for the tracking accessory. It focuses on user safety and enhancements in unwanted tracking alerts.
Apple AirTag 2 update rolls out
Apple’s AirTags already have an anti-stalking feature. The release notes for the AirTag firmware update do not specify the exact models. But it’s likely that this is for the AirTag 2.

The latest update’s version number is 3.0.45 and it brings unwanted tracking sound to easily find an unknown AirTag using Precision Finding. The firmware version is designed to prevent misuse of AirTags and notify users if an unknown tracker is detected moving with them over time. To jog your memory, AirTag was used by bad actors to stalk other people.
Furthermore, the latest update also addresses minor bugs. The 3.0.45 version is automatically installed when the AirTag is connected to the iPhone and there is no way to install it manually. Users can check the firmware through Find My app > Items tab > AirTag and tap its name to see more details.

The latest generation AirTag 2 has a 50 per cent louder speaker making it easier to find the accessory. With the tracking accessory, the item’s location can be shared with trusted third parties such as airline staff.
Alongside iPhones and iPads, Precision Finding also works with Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, and newer models. The second-generation UWB chip can guide users to their lost items from 50 per cent farther away.
AirTag 2 is priced at Rs 3,790 and the four-pack bundle costs Rs 12,900.
