App Store Awards are here, and Apple has ranked the best apps across categories and devices. Apple has also crowned the best game of the year across devices, and has honoured the best apps with the most cultural impact. Excited? Read on to see all the apps and games that took the crown in 2025.
Best apps across devices
Apple has crowned Tiimo as the iPhone app of the year. Apple says that the app offers users an impressive visual planner and thoughtfully implemented AI that turns your aspirations into actionable steps.
On the iPad side, Detail won the iPad app of the year award. For those unaware, Detail is a video editing app with AI editing tools that democratise the video production process for both seasoned creators and those aspiring to be successful creators.
Essayist is the Mac app of the year, as it tackles the time-consuming work of formatting academic papers on Mac, powered by AI tools. Explore POV from James Hustler is the Apple Vision Pro app of the year, and Strava is the Apple Watch app of the year. Interestingly, HBO Max is the Apple TV app of the year.
Best games across devices
Coming to games, which is a fun and exciting category, there’s Pokémon TCG Pocket, which took the crown for being the best iPhone Game of the year. DREDGE from Black Salt Games is the iPad Game of the year.
On the Mac side, you get no points for guessing which app took the crown. Yes, you guessed it right, it’s the Night City. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition came to Mac earlier this year, and it’s a well-optimised title for macOS.
Although Apple Vision Pro isn’t accessible to everyone, Apple and its fans have made Porta Nubi the game of choice for the Vision Pro. WHAT THE CLASH? is the Apple Arcade game of the year.
Apps with the most cultural impact
Other than this, Apple has also honoured apps that had the most cultural impact. Art of Fauna, Chants of Sennaar, despelote, Be My Eyes, Focus Friend, and StoryGraph are all apps with the ability to drive meaningful change.
