If you’re someone who keeps an eye on Apple’s ecosystem, you already know that WWDC is the company’s annual playground for software updates.
In less than two weeks, WWDC 2025 will kick off with a keynote expected to introduce updates to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. But this year, there’s also a growing sense that new hardware might sneak in, even if history suggests otherwise.
Let’s set the record straight
While WWDC isn’t always about devices, Apple has had its moments. The Vision Pro, new Mac Studio models, and a 15-inch MacBook Air made headlines in 2023. The M2 MacBook Air showed up in 2022. But years like 2021 and 2024 were quiet. That said, Apple has a few candidates for surprise reveals this time around.
One possibility is the AirTag 2. The successor to Apple’s popular item tracker could bring a Precision Find chip for better accuracy. Accessory leaks have been light, but analysts say a refresh is due.
Alongside this, Apple might debut a Smart Display, internally dubbed the “HomePad”. It will reportedly feature a 6-inch screen, camera, speakers, and a battery, with a design similar to a compact iPad. AI integration is a given. Now, whether it will be Artificial Intelligence or Apple Intelligence, only time will tell.
Then there’s the seasonal refresh of cases and Apple Watch bands. Expect new summer colours and likely a few tweaks in material choices. On the Mac front, don’t expect much. The Mac Pro is the only model awaiting an update, but the rumoured M5 Ultra chip might not land until 2026.

Even if hardware doesn’t take centre stage, the WWDC keynote will set the tone for Apple’s next chapter. And for fans of the brand, that’s more than enough reason to tune in.
