Apple’s foldable device may become a reality in late 2026

While OEMs across the smartphone universe are six, nearly seven iterations deep in their foldable journey, Apple has yet to dip its toes into this space. Come fall 2026, Apple may finally be taking the plunge.

The company’s first foldable device is reportedly set to debut in Q3 of 2026, aligning with its usual hardware refresh cycle. According to reports, Samsung will supply the displays for Apple’s first foldable venture. Here’s everything we know so far.

Apple could debut its first foldable in 2026

According to reliable industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will begin production of its first foldable iPhone in late Q3 or early Q4 of 2025. The device will be assembled by Foxconn, and key hardware components, such as the hinge design, are still under development.

While many elements of the foldable iPhone are still being finalised, Kuo notes that the display has reached its final development stage. Samsung Display will be the supplier for these foldable screens and is expected to produce seven to eight million units annually to meet Apple’s inventory demands.

However, since manufacturing for the initial model will only cover part of 2026, actual shipments that year may fall short of total capacity. Apple has reportedly placed an order for 15 to 20 million foldable iPhones, but this volume is expected to be spread over a two to three-year period.

Kuo predicts that between three and five million units could ship in 2026, with the remaining units rolling out through 2027 and 2028. Given that this may become Apple’s most expensive iPhone to date, likely exceeding $2,000 or Rs 2,00,000, adoption is expected to be gradual, driven initially by niche enthusiasts and early adopters.
