Apple Pro Display XDR 2 with built-in webcam could be in the works

Back in 2019, Apple unveiled the Pro Display XDR, a professional-grade monitor designed for creative professionals. The Cupertino-based brand has not launched a successor model yet, but it appears that it is gearing up for the second-generation edition of the Pro Display XDR.

Apple Pro Display XDR 2 coming soon

The macOS 26.1 Tahoe’s third beta version has been rolled out for developers for testing, and as per a report by MacRumors, its internal code has revealed the existence of a second-generation Pro Display XDR. What’s interesting about this finding is that it will feature a built-in camera.

The first-generation Pro Display XDR, which was introduced with a hefty price tag of $5,000 in the US, does not feature a webcam or speakers. So, users are required to use third-party cameras or even an iPhone as a webcam. In India, the 32-inch monitor is currently selling for Rs 4,49,900, while the nano-texture version is priced at Rs 5,29,900.

Coming back to the new development, the inclusion of the “Pro Display XDR Camera” and “Pro Display XDR Desk View Camera” code strings suggests that the second-generation Pro Display XDR will be equipped with a built-in Center Stage camera.

For those unfamiliar, the Center Stage feature automatically keeps you centred in the frame during video calls by using the ultra-wide camera to pan and zoom as you move. Meanwhile, the Desk View feature uses the ultra-wide camera to show your desk or workspace from above while keeping your face in view simultaneously.

This week, Apple is expected to unveil a couple of new products, such as a new iPad Pro, an updated version of the Vision Pro, a 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M5 chip onboard, new Apple TV models, HomePod mini, and AirTags. While the company is said to be working on two monitors, such as the second-generation Pro Display XDR and a new Studio Display, there’s no clarity on whether these will debut alongside the above-mentioned products.
