A better calculator app may just be on the cards

Apple’s Calculator app may be getting a major upgrade with macOS 15

If you’re an Apple enthusiast sitting tight for the WWDC 2024, you already know how the brand has promised several landmark updates across all its devices. While the event is a couple of months away, there are plenty of rumours confirming landmark OS and design changes for iPhones and Mac systems.

That said, Mac users awaiting the macOS 15 update can expect one of the key apps to get a major overhaul this time around. And, believe it or not, that is the Calculator app. Here’s what is rumoured to change:

Calculator app on macOS 15: What is set to change?

While the upgrade may not seem as exciting, AppleInsider confirms how this could be one of the ‘most significant’ changes in store that the Calculator app has had ‘in years’. It is, in fact, so significant that it has its own codename ‘Grey Parrot’, referencing the African Grey Parrot, which is best known for its cognitive abilities. Another rumour that comes close to this also talks about the Notes app upgrade.

The Calculator app will get its very own redesign and users can expect a sidebar that will display your calculation history. This could come with its own functional button that will be rounded and also be in a darker shade of black. Moreover, you will soon also be able to resize the Calculator app window, which is currently not possible.

Apart from this, Apple could be looking at adding unit and currency conversions that will fetch real-time rates and data directly, as opposed to a pop-up, which is available today.

When will the update be available for everyone?

Since the upgrade is only a rumour, there’s no saying when or if the brand will unveil it to its users. However, there’s a good chance of it rolling out with the WWDC 2024 announcements in June. For any more details about the event, don’t forget to keep an eye out on Unboxed by Croma.
