The Asus ROG Phone 10 series is still a go, leakster claims

Leaks regarding the next generation of Asus’ famous ROG gaming phones have been rather quiet this year, which sparked speculation about their discontinuation. But a leaker who goes by the name ‘Smart Pikachu’ on Weibo has now suggested that any claims of the lineup’s death were greatly exaggerated.

Silence doesn’t mean the game is over

In a response to a comment on the Chinese platform about Asus shutting down the lineup, the leaker claimed that the Asus ROG Phone 10 series is indeed “on the way”.

They went on to claim that it will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line unit for this year. Besides this, expect that signature gamer look to be carried forward from the Phone 9 series, complete with the lights at the back.

Other shared specs are also based on the run-of-the-mill ROG Phone characteristics, such as high refresh rates, ray tracing capabilities, and “desktop-level performance”.

Pikachu also spoke of “high frame rate adaptation for many games”, which likely refers to Asus collaborating with game developers to get their framerate game up. The ROG Phone 9 series achieved a whopping 185Hz refresh rate, and its successor is believed to retain that smoothness. Actually getting devs to utilise that hardware has been a challenge, but Asus looks geared to change that.

A couple of things that will be upgraded, though, are heat dissipation and AI capabilities. The ROG Phone 9 already featured a 57 per cent larger graphite sheet mated with a vapour chamber. Expect these components to grow more efficient, if not size up a little, to better handle the extreme performance of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

Finally, the upcoming lineup may include a more affordable variant, similar to the current ROG Phone 9 FE.

Regarding launch, the previous models dropped on November 19. Now, that would ideally mean a similar timeline for the next. But since Asus has been awfully quiet so far, there’s a strong possibility of a delay.

Of course, Asus is yet to share any official confirmation or teasers, so everything above should be taken with a healthy dose of salt.
