Google Pixel 10 Pro
We can’t say ‘camera’ without mentioning the Google Pixel phones. Google redefined smartphone photography when it introduced the world to computational photography and the first Pixel phone. Today, 10 generations later, the phone is still at the top of the game and offers stunning image quality and superb video.
The Google Pixel 10 Pro retails at Rs 1,09,999 and offers a 50 MP primary camera with a new and improved HDR pipeline, a 48 MP ultra-wide that supports macro focus, a 48 MP telephoto with 5x optical and 100x AI zoom, and a monster 42 MP selfie camera with a 103-degree field of view. All of these cameras support ultra-fast phase detect autofocus. Oh, and did we mention support for 8K video, 4K Dolby Vision, and stability up to 20x zoom in video?
Apple iPhone 17 Pro
If the Pixel is known for photos Apple’s Pro phones are known for their video capabilities. Of course, that doesn’t mean the cameras aren’t great. On the iPhone 17 Pro’s rear you’ll find a triple 48 MP array featuring best-in-class optical image stabilisers, a teraprism design telephoto with 40x zoom (8x optical), and the ultra-wide does macro photography.
These cameras shoot photos in ProRAW and video in Apple Log 2 and ProRes Raw to allow editors to extract the maximum possible performance from these sensors. Speaking of, these same sensors were even used to shoot Hollywood movies, which should give you some appreciation of the fantastic quality they offer. Genlock, a new feature, syncs the shutters on multiple iPhone 17 Pro units and is a feature not found on any other smartphone.
The selfie camera is a relatively tame 18 MP unit but it uses larger pixels for a cleaner output and supports Centre Stage to keep you framed perfectly during video calls.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra
Apple’s biggest rival, Samsung, has put up the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This phone features a quad-camera array on the rear that includes two telephotos – a 10 MP 3x for portraits and a 50 MP 10-100x. The primary camera is a 200 MP beast while even the ultrawide sports a 50 MP sensor. The front is a more toned down 12 MP unit that’s optimised for 4K vlogging and natural-looking selfies.
