Now that generative AI tools have become common, it’s time we look for what’s next. And it’s probably agentic AI systems. We have been hearing about agentic AI tools and features for some time now, but there hasn’t been any significant news from big names, except for Opera, which announced its agentic browser some time back.
Now the AI giant, OpenAI, has announced a full-fledged agentic AI system that can not only reason, but also think and act independently, i.e., without you having to command it. Sounds good? Here’s everything you need to know about ChatGPT agent.
What’s ChatGPT agent and how does it work?
ChatGPT agent is an agentic system that builds on ChatGPT’s existing tools, letting the AI do tasks independently. The agent uses a sandboxed virtual machine to swiftly complete all the tasks. It has the ability to switch between a web browser, Python code interpreter, terminal, and file system.
This agentic system is designed to automate your workflow, helping you boost your productivity. As for how it works, you can give the agentic system a single command, and it will not only respond to your prompt but also plan the next steps needed to execute things. It will further execute the task and notify you when it’s finished.
ChatGPT agent can be very useful for planning and executing things across departments. Whether it be a code, web research for a marketing plan, document editing, or making reports. Or, simply booking tickets for you. All of this can be done without you having to constantly command it. It also supports API integration and can interact with different apps to get things done, like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Notion, among others.
All that sounds cool, but what about privacy and security? OpenAI says that ChatGPT agent requires user review for all irreversible actions. The virtual browsing sandbox ensures there’s no direct access to your passwords or sensitive credentials. It also shows your full task history for transparency.

OpenAI has begun rolling out ChatGPT agent, and it will be accessible to ChatGPT Pro, Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Education users. However, each paid tier offers different usage credits, owing to the amount of strain this feature may put on the GPUs.
ChatGPT agent appears pretty cool, and we can’t wait to test it out. What do you think about it? Do let us know in the comments below.
