ChatGPT Atlas, an AI-powered web browser, launches to rival Google Chrome, Comet

OpenAI has launched a new AI-driven web browser called ChatGPT Atlas, designed to compete with popular browsers such as Google Chrome and Perplexity AI’s Comet. The browser aims to redefine online browsing by integrating the intelligence of ChatGPT directly into the user experience, making web navigation smarter, faster, and more interactive. Here’s everything you need to know about the ChatGPT Atlas web browser.

ChatGPT Altas: Integrates ChatGPT directly into the web browser

The ChatGPT Atlas has been developed as a “super assistant” that understands user intent and performs online tasks seamlessly. It retains all the essential browsing features users expect, while adding ChatGPT-powered capabilities that allow for instant summarisation, comparisons, and task execution without leaving the browser window.

A key feature is the “Ask ChatGPT” sidebar, which provides real-time assistance without opening a new tab. Users can draft emails, refine documents, generate summaries, write code, and perform other content-based actions directly from this sidebar.

One of Atlas’s standout features is its memory function, which enables it to remember information from previously visited websites. This allows for personalised responses, follow-up suggestions, and the ability to resume earlier tasks, such as reviewing job listings or compiling research notes. Users can manage their stored data by choosing to delete, archive, or keep it private in the settings.

The browser also includes an Agent Mode, giving ChatGPT the ability to perform practical tasks such as booking appointments, researching topics, planning events, or filling out forms automatically. OpenAI emphasises that these functions are built with strong safety and privacy safeguards, preventing unauthorised actions on sensitive websites.

ChatGPT Atlas: Availability

Currently, ChatGPT Atlas is available exclusively for macOS users across all ChatGPT plans, such as Free, Plus, Pro, and Go. OpenAI has confirmed that dedicated versions for iOS, Windows, and Android are in development. Users can download the browser from here, and once installed, users can easily import bookmarks, passwords, and browsing history from their existing browsers.
