The third-generation Echo Show 5 has just arrived in India, and this time, it’s more than just a bedside clock with a smart assistant. This time around, the latest version of the compact smart display brings a deeper audio experience, smarter home integrations, and subtle design improvements, all while holding onto its petite 5.5-inch footprint. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest Echo smart speaker.
Echo Show 5 3rd Gen launches in India with improved sound
The hardware tweaks on the Echo Show 5 third generation are modest. The display retains its 5.5-inch touchscreen with rounded corners, now fronted by an infinity edge glass cover that lends it a slightly more premium feel. But inside, there’s a lot more going on.
The new model is powered by the AZ2 Neural Edge processor and pairs it with a 1.7-inch rear-facing speaker that promises double the bass and crisper vocals over its predecessor. Whether you’re tuning into lo-fi beats or your favourite podcast, the difference should be more than cosmetic.
Voice commands continue to be the heart of the experience, with Alexa handling reminders, calendar entries, music playback, and smart home control; all hands-free. But now, the Echo Show 5 doubles down on its smart display chops.
The built-in camera isn’t just for video calls anymore; it can also function as a basic home surveillance tool. With the “Drop In” feature, users can remotely check in on a room and even connect compatible video doorbells or security cams to stream feeds right to the screen.
In a world inching closer to full-home automation, the device plays the role of a mini command centre. From switching on the AC to dimming smart lights, controlling a TV, or turning off a geyser, all it takes is a voice prompt or a tap on the screen. Video calls, intercom messages between Echo devices, and even visual recipe walkthroughs round out the speaker’s multitasking appeal.

The company says the refreshed model is designed to fit naturally into people’s daily routines, whether it’s getting a quick glance at your calendar while brushing your teeth, setting a reminder mid-cooking chaos, or using it as a digital photo frame.
Privacy, unsurprisingly, remains a selling point. There’s a physical camera shutter, a mic on/off button, and options to view or delete voice recordings through the Alexa app, which is a quiet nod to growing concerns around surveillance and data safety.
