The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is here, and this time, it’s leaner, lighter, and finally, a foldable phone that doesn’t feel like a pocket brick. Samsung’s latest flagship has dropped some serious grams, and in doing so, it’s also dropped something else. The S-Pen.
Yes, for the first time since the Fold 3 introduced stylus support to the foldable lineup, the new Z Fold 7 no longer plays nice with the S-Pen. Samsung confirmed that it removed the digitiser layer, the crucial bit that detects stylus input, to achieve the phone’s noticeably slimmer profile.

Make no mistake, the Fold 7 is elegant. In our first impressions of the phone, we raved about how much better it feels in the hand. This is the most refined Fold yet, and Samsung knows that for most users, a sleeker device trumps niche features.
In fact, Akshay Gupta, Director of MX Business at Samsung India, explained the design rethink to India Today, and said, “We are re-engineering existing technology to make it compact and put it inside slim form factor devices.” Achieving the Fold 7’s astonishing 4.2mm thin profile, he said, meant reworking everything from the camera module to the internal circuitry, not just reusing components from other flagships.

The S-Pen wasn’t bundled with previous Fold models (nor did it ever get a dedicated slot like the S Ultra series), but it carved out a loyal fanbase; particularly among power users and creatives who prized the stylus for productivity and precision.
However, it’s worth noting that S-Pen usage on earlier Folds was already limited. The stylus only worked on the inner display, required a special retractable nib to avoid damaging the screen, and needed a dedicated case to carry it.
That friction meant only a small subset of users ever really embraced the feature. Samsung clearly ran the numbers and decided that a thinner, more universally appealing design outweighed keeping the S-Pen around for a niche crowd.
So where does that leave stylus lovers? Likely looking toward the Galaxy S Ultra series, which remains the true S Pen sanctuary in Samsung’s lineup. What do you think of Samsung’s decision to remove S-Pen support on their latest fold? Drop a comment with your thoughts.

I just wonder who is the brain behind this Nonsence decision of removing spen over making it slim. Instead i was expecting inbuilt stylus, atleast that would have been a reason to upgrade from Fold 6 to 7. Whole internet is flooded on the dislike of removing spen and samsung still ignorant. Ignoring demand of customer is early sign of downfall samsung.
