Google Drive is getting a useful new addition aimed at keeping users in the loop, without needing to sift through every file. Starting today, Drive introduces “Catch me up,” a new feature powered by Gemini that highlights recent file changes since you last viewed them.
Whether it’s edits in Docs or new comments in Sheets and Slides, “Catch me up” gives users a quick, high-level summary of updates across their Drive. The tool isn’t designed to list every single change, but instead focuses on those most likely to be relevant. Think of it as your personalised update feed for document activity.
Here’s how it works
From Google Drive Home, users will now see a “Catch me up” nudge appear at the top of the page. Clicking on it will open a tailored update in the Gemini side panel, summarising key changes. You can also get updates on individual files. Just look for the “catch me up” activity indicator next to any doc, sheet, or slide in your Drive. Click the icon directly, or select the file and choose “Catch me up” from the toolbar to view what’s changed since you last opened it.
The feature is available in English and is rolling out gradually to both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains starting June 3, 2025. It requires smart features and personalisation to be turned on, which admins can manage in the Admin console.

“Catch me up” is available to users on Google Workspace Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Gemini Education tiers, and Google One AI Premium. If you’ve previously purchased a Gemini Business or Enterprise add-on, you’ll have access too.
It’s a small addition, but one that makes staying updated across collaborative workstreams a lot more efficient.
