It is bigger, better, and more usable

Google Gemini steps further into Apple’s garden, expanding app support to iPad OS

At some point in our always connected lives, we’ve all been there, trying to multitask on an iPad, only to feel boxed in by an app that clearly wasn’t designed for the screen you’re holding. For months, that’s exactly how Gemini felt. It was a powerful tool, sure, but one trapped in an iPhone-shaped box on your roomy iPad display. That changes today.

Enter the dedicated iPadOS version of the Gemini app. Announced by Google and now live in every region where Gemini is offered, this isn’t just a resized iOS port. This app is built to fit the iPad’s multitasking magic. Split View? Check. Home screen widget? Absolutely. It even hooks into your Google Photos library for easier media access.

So, what can you do with it?

Plenty. Start with Gemini Live, which lets you hold fluid, real-time conversations in over 45 languages. Or use Deep Research to generate reports and pull insights without the tab-hopping. Have audio files? Let Audio Overview break them down in digestible summaries which have now expanded globally after strong feedback on its English-only launch.

Then there’s Canvas, a collaboration-friendly workspace for co-writing, editing, or coding alongside Gemini. And if you’re feeling creative, you can bring your concepts to life with built-in image and video generation tools. Yes, from your iPad.

It’s a welcome upgrade, even if it’s a little overdue. Gemini for iOS launched back in November. But, as the saying goes, the best time to release an iPad-native app was then. The second-best time is now. And hey, compared to some other tech giants, Google’s tardiness here is hardly a scandal.

So if your iPad’s been missing that smart sidekick energy, Gemini’s ready to step up. This time, it actually fits the screen.

What do you think of this app? Is it a step towards other companies being more interdependent? Let us know your thoughts!
