GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas coming to Netflix next month: What to expect

Netflix started its gaming conquest about two years ago, and while the platform has offered some decent casual games since 2021, most Netflix users still open the app mainly for streaming their favourite movies and TV shows. That, however, could be changing soon with the platform bringing some of its biggest titles yet to Netflix Games – the GTA trilogy including GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition launched in 2021, bringing the three classic Grand Theft Auto games to modern gamers with improved graphics. The titles were originally available only for Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and the Nintendo Switch consoles. However, they will now also be available on iPhones and Android smartphones via Netflix.

When will the GTA games be available on Netflix?

GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas will be available on Netflix from December 14 (December 15 in some parts of the world). Interested users can pre-register themselves starting today on Google Play and the App Store.

Note that the games will be available only via Netflix, and that Netflix subscribers will not need to pay an extra subscription or one-time fee for the games. Users who do not have a Netflix plan will not have access to these games, but can still purchase some other GTA games directly from Rockstar Games on the Play Store or App Store. These include the original editions (not the new definitive editions) of GTA: San Andreas, GTA: Vice City and GTA: Liberty City Stories.

Here’s a quick look at the GTA games with improved graphics in the official trailer. Note that the phone versions of these games may feature a lower resolution version of these games, while some elements like the in-game fog in San Andreas may be omitted.

In India, Netflix currently runs four plans – a Rs 149 Mobile plan that caps streaming at 480p, a Rs 199 Basic plan that allows streaming up to 720p, and a Standard and Premium plan which allow streaming at 1080p and 4K+HDR respectively, and cost Rs 499 and Rs 649 per month.

Access to Netflix Games is available with all of these plans at no extra cost, with unlimited access to many titles which can be accessed on Android, iOS, iPadOS and even iPod Touch devices. Users who already have an active Netflix subscription need to simply wait till December 14 for the GTA trilogy games, while others must first visit the Netflix website to start a subscription plan.

The games come to GTA fans on Android and iOS at a time when the world is eagerly waiting for the first GTA VI trailer, also set to release next month. GTA VI is set to be the first full-fledged GTA game to be released in a decade since GTA V launched in 2013.
