There was a time when even a 32-inch flat-screen TV was considered large, but today it’s considered a fairly entry-level product with a screen size that would be classified as small. The home cinema experience is no longer limited to projectors and specialised multi-screen setups, and it’s possible to get a proper cinematic experience in your living room even with a big television. While TVs 55 inches and larger might typically be considered the ‘big-screen’ options, the size you pick entirely depends on your requirements, the space in your home, and your budget.
That said, it’s important to remember that bigger is not necessarily better when it comes to television screens. You should choose the right size based on various factors such as viewing distance, resolution, and the space in your home to be able to set up a large screen TV set. Read on to make an educated decision on which TV screen size is best for you.
Largest TV sizes explained
According to modern and current-generation television standards, large screen options typically start at the 55-inch mark. However, many buyers might want to go a bit bigger and get a 65-inch television, which truly starts to feel like a big TV. Remember, the screen size measurement is taken by measuring the diagonal of the screen from the top corner to the opposite bottom corner.
If you’re willing to go even bigger, screen sizes for TVs will be able to keep up with your needs. There are plenty of 75-inch televisions available in the mainstream from major brands, across screen types such as LED, quantum-dot LED, OLED, and even the newer mini-LED and micro-LED options. Going even larger than 75 inches, you get various sizes such as 77-inch, 83-inch, and 85-inch TVs.
If you really want to push the boundaries of size – assuming you have the space and viewing room for it – you can even get a super-sized TV. Brands such as Samsung, LG, and TCL offer televisions upwards of 95-inches in screen size. Currently, among the biggest televisions available in India is one from TCL, which has an impressive screen size of 115 inches across, with an Ultra-HD QLED screen.
Choosing the correct TV screen size for your home
There are a few factors to consider when choosing a TV screen size for your home, to ensure that you end up with a pleasant and comfortable viewing experience.
Viewing distance: The larger the screen, the more you need the viewing distance to be. Measure this by calculating the distance between your seating position and where the TV will be installed. For most living rooms with viewing distances of around 10-12 feet, even a 55-inch or 65-inch screen should be adequate.

Installation: The larger the television, the more it will weigh, and it will also require a larger and more sturdy table or wall to be installed on. Very large TVs may be impractical to wall mount, and will need to be placed on a TV table for safety and ease of use.
Budget: The bigger the screen, the higher the cost when it comes to televisions. Very large screen sizes are niche options, and even a small increase in screen size may cost you twice or thrice as much as your typical 55-inch or 65-inch TV.
