How to use the new Google Lens video search feature

Google Lens is a great tool for quickly searching what you are seeing in front of you. However, it can be a bit limiting at times as all it does is scan a photo and search on the web.

But what if it does the same for videos, letting it get a broader idea of what you are seeing, allowing it to give you proper results and responses? That’s exactly what the new Google Lens feature is all about, and it appears to be already rolling out to users.

Google first announced Google Lens’ video search feature at Google I\O this year, and it looked to be an impressive feature. Now, it is rolling out to some users, and Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman was able to use it.

Google Lens’ video search feature works as it should. You need to open the Google Lens app on your smartphone and point your phone’s camera to the subject. Instead of tapping the search button (which looks like a magnifying glass), you need to press and hold it to let it record a video.

While it records a video, you can shoot your queries. Google Lens will then scan and analyse what you showed and asked, and then provide relevant search results. If the AI Overviews feature is turned on for your Google account, you may also see an AI-generated response to your video search.

As for its availability, Google has started rolling out video search to a few users. However, if you do not see it, don’t panic as there’s no clear roadmap of its availability.

It could reach you sometime later, but the good thing is that you can check if you have received it. To do that, open the Google Lens app and press and hold the search icon, as shown above. If it starts recording, then you have got the feature. If it doesn’t, that means you are yet to receive it.
