A long overdue change for error-free comments

Instagram now lets you edit comments but there’s a catch

Instagram is introducing a long-awaited feature. Users now have the ability to edit comments after posting. The update may seem small, but it actually fixes the frustration of having to delete and re-post a comment just to correct a typo, add an emoji, or incomplete thoughts. Having said that, there’s a small caveat that people need to keep in mind.

A small but meaningful quality-of-life update

With the new update, Instagram users get a 15-minute window to edit their comments after posting. Users can make multiple edits without any restrictions. The comment will display an ‘Edited’ label letting users know that changes were made. The popular photo and video sharing platform won’t show edit history i.e. it won’t display what the original comment was.

The ability to edit comments is limited to text-only. So if your comment includes media like images, GIFs – they cannot be changed. Only the text portion can be modified.

It’s also worth noting that comments can show up in multiple content on Instagram, including Stories which does not support the text editing tool as of now. So, it’s only available on content that’s shared on the feed like photos and videos.

To edit a comment on Instagram, users just need to tap on it and select the edit option to make the changes. The feature is only available on iOS and Android apps, but not on the web version. Many social media platforms like Meta, Reddit, YouTube, etc offer post-editing capabilities to comments.
