Intel 14th Gen CPUs bring in more speed and AI-powered overclocking

Intel has announced its new 14th Gen Core i5, i7 and i9 CPUs for desktops. Succeeding the 13th Gen chips from last year, the new ‘Raptor Lake’ chipsets are not just faster and more efficient, but also add in some AI-powered magic on select variants. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Intel 14th Gen chipsets.

Intel 14th Gen Processor lineup

The new 14th Gen lineup includes two i5 variants, two i7 variants, and two i9 variants. Below are details on all of these.

Core i5 14600K/14600KF

The Core i5 14600K and 14600KF feature 14 cores and 20 threads. These processors feature performance cores that can clock up to 5.3GHz and support 20 CPU PCIe lanes. The only difference between the 14600K and 14600KF is the presence of built-in Intel UHD graphics 720 on the ‘K’ variant, which lets you run a system without a dedicated Graphics Card.

These are great processors for gaming machines that are built with 1080p and 2K-level gaming in mind and will be powerful enough to run content creation software like Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro as well. However, for more performance, and faster results for a more creation or work oriented laptop, you may want to look at the Core i7 series.

Core i7 14700K/14700KF

The new Core i7 14700K and 14700KF desktop processors come with 20 cores and 28 threads. The performance cores of both processors can clock up to 5.5GHz and thanks to Intel Turbo Boost Max tech 3.0, your system can also clock up to 5.6GHz during extreme loads. Again, the ‘K’ variant comes with built-in Intel UHD Graphics 720, while the ‘KF’ variant will require you to add a dedicated Graphics Card.

The Core i7 series is great for work-oriented machines and will feature enough performance for most users. This includes gamers who want to play at maximum settings and livestream their gameplay as well as content creators who want to render 4K videos quickly.

Core i9 14900K/14900KF

The 14th Gen Core i9 series is for those who have always eyed the i9 series. With extreme performance numbers, the 14900K and 14900KF come with 24 cores, 32 threads and can clock up to 6.0GHz with Intel Thermal Velocity boost. The latter is a first in desktop-class CPUs. The ‘K’ and ‘KF’ variants will come with or without Intel UHD Graphics 720 built-in respectively.

Intel 14th Gen Processors: Other features

The Intel 14th Gen Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 processors will also support Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7. A new AI Assist feature in Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility will also offer AI-powered overclocking on select processors in the new series.

The Intel chipsets also feature support for 600 and 700-series motherboards, since they still work with the LGA 1700 socket. So, those who are considering an upgrade may not have to buy a new motherboard as well. The processors will also be compatible with both DDR4 and DDR5 speed RAM chips.

Intel 14th Gen Processors: Pricing and availability

The Intel 14th Gen Core i5, i7 and i9 processors will be available from October 17. The Core i5 14600K/KF variants are priced at $319 (approx Rs 26,500) and $294 (approx Rs 24,400) respectively.

The Core i7 14700K/KF processors are priced at $409 (approx Rs 34,000) and $384 (approx Rs 32,000) respectively, and the Core i9 14900K/KF processors are priced at $589 (approx Rs 49,000) and $564 (approx Rs 46,900) respectively.

The new processors should also be a part of newer pre-built desktops from major brands in the upcoming months.
