If you have ever tried to switch from an iPhone to Android, then you probably know about the pain of migrating your data. Although you can migrate some of your data across the platform, a full end-to-end data transfer, as Patrick Bateman says, is “simply not possible.”
However, the good news is that Apple is working on a new framework that may simplify the transfer of app data between iOS devices and Android phones. Interestingly, this framework is compatible with iOS 26.1, which means we could see this ability sooner than expected. Here’s all you need to know.
What’s the new iOS to Android data transfer framework?
As spotted by 9to5Mac, Apple is working on a new AppMigrationKit framework that’s compatible with iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1. The framework allows developers to include app data during migration between iPhones and Android devices. This makes end-to-end data transfer possible.
Although this framework is compatible with iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1, it’s unclear if Apple will immediately enable the feature. However, as per the published documents, the launch appears to be imminent.

Thanks to this feature, Apple will reportedly bring a new ‘Transfer or Rest iPhone’ option on iOS. Users will be able to access it in Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone. This will let users seamlessly enjoy a one-time migration process from iOS to Android.
Similarly, Apple has also reportedly hinted that Android will soon get a ‘Transfer to iPhone’ functionality. This feature will initially offer an eSIM migration tool, followed by a full data transfer option.
