iPhone 17e is launching this month with new upgrades, claims report

Last year, Apple unveiled the iPhone 16e as an affordable variant in the iPhone 16 series. Since then, rumours have suggested that the company has been working on its successor, the iPhone 17e, with a launch expected in the first quarter of this year.

A new leak from German publication Macwelt has now revealed its exact launch date, citing information obtained from anonymous sources.

iPhone 17e launch date

As per the report, the iPhone 17e is scheduled to launch on February 19. Notably, its predecessor was also unveiled on the same date last year. While there is unlikely to be a major launch event, the device is expected to be announced via a press release.

iPhone 17e: What upgrades are expected?

Design-wise, the iPhone 17e is expected to look nearly identical to the iPhone 16. This means it will likely retain a notch-style display and a single rear camera. Some early reports claimed that the 17e would feature a Dynamic Island-style notch, but that no longer appears to be the case based on recent information.

As a result, the iPhone 17e is expected to feature a 6.1-inch OLED display on the front, along with a new 18MP selfie camera. The rear panel may house a single 48MP camera. Reports also suggest that the iPhone 17e will finally gain MagSafe charging support, a feature that was missing on the previous generation.

For context, the iPhone 16e supports wireless charging via the Qi standard at 7.5W. With MagSafe, the iPhone 17e could support wireless charging speeds of up to 25W.

In terms of performance, the iPhone 16e was powered by the A18 chip, while the iPhone 17e is expected to upgrade to the newer A19 chipset, which will also power the standard iPhone 17.

Other anticipated upgrades include Apple’s second-generation C1X modem and the N1 wireless networking chip, which are expected to deliver improved connectivity, better power efficiency, and more stable network performance.

The iPhone 16e was available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage variants, priced at Rs 59,900, Rs 69,900, and Rs 89,900, respectively. It remains to be seen whether the new generation will retain similar pricing or see a marginal increase.
