iPhone 19e could bring the biggest display upgrade to Apple ‘e’ series

The iPhone 19e has started appearing in early leaks even though the current generation has only just arrived. Recent reports suggest that Apple could be preparing a notable display upgrade for the future ‘e’ series device. If the claims are accurate, the iPhone 19e may introduce a feature that has previously been reserved for premium models.

iPhone 19e may feature ProMotion display technology

According to a report from ZDNet Korea, Apple is considering bringing a ProMotion display to the iPhone 19e. ProMotion refers to Apple’s variable refresh rate technology that allows the screen to dynamically adjust between different refresh rates depending on the activity. This helps deliver smoother scrolling and animations while also conserving battery power.

So far, the ‘e’ lineup has been limited to standard 60Hz panels. Even the recently announced iPhone 17e continues to use a fixed refresh rate display. If Apple moves to an LTPO OLED panel for the iPhone 19e, it would allow the screen to increase the refresh rate up to 120Hz when required and reduce it during static tasks to improve efficiency.

Earlier ProMotion implementations on Apple devices have varied in their range. For instance, the displays on the iPhone 13 Pro models could shift between 10Hz and 120Hz, while later models such as the iPhone 14 Pro allowed refresh rates to drop as low as 1Hz. It remains unclear what range Apple would choose if the technology eventually reaches the iPhone 19e.

Apple testing next generation LTPO+ display technology

The same report also suggests that Apple is working on a more advanced display architecture known as LTPO+. This approach reportedly involves using oxide materials for both switching and driving transistors, which could improve power efficiency and response time.

This next generation display technology is expected to appear first on higher-end devices such as the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, the rumoured iPhone Air, and Apple’s future foldable phone. If those devices successfully adopt the new panel technology, existing LTPO displays may gradually move to more affordable models.

The iPhone 19e is expected to arrive around early 2028, although Apple has not confirmed any details. As the device is still several years away, the final hardware specifications could change as development progresses.
