After its launch in China, JBL has now rolled out the Boombox 4 worldwide. The fourth-gen JBL Boombox takes its place on the global stage with a balance of power, brains, and endurance.
It’s bigger than its predecessor but paradoxically lighter, and that contradiction sums up its design philosophy: more sound, less baggage. Here’s everything you need to new about the new Boombox speaker on the block.
JBL Boombox 4 is louder, sharper, and smarter
Inside the frame sit two 5-inch woofers, two 0.75-inch tweeters, and three passive radiators, a configuration tuned for chest-thumping lows and glass-cutting highs.
Output hits 2 × 65W RMS for woofers and 2 × 40W RMS for tweeters when plugged in, slightly scaling back to 2 × 60W RMS on battery. The frequency response stretches from 37Hz to 20kHz, with a signal-to-noise ratio north of 80dB. For the uninitiated, this should translate to well-balanced sound.
But it’s the AI Sound Boost that sets the Boombox 4 apart. The algorithm scans audio in real time, dialing in extra punch without letting distortion creep in, even if you’re the type to keep the volume maxed.
The Boombox 4 isn’t shy about stamina either. JBL claims up to 28 hours on a charge, stretching to 34 with Playtime Boost enabled. 10 minutes on the charger buys you two extra hours of playback, and the swappable battery doubles as a power bank via USB-C.

This isn’t a speaker you need to baby. With an IP68 rating, it shrugs off dust and dunks alike. Despite measuring 51 × 26 × 21 cm, it weighs in at 5.89 kg, which is leaner than you’d expect for its size. Colourways include White, Black, Blue, and the camo-styled Squad.
Connectivity has been brought up to speed with Bluetooth 5.4, lossless playback over USB-C, Auracast for linking multiple JBL units, and the familiar PartyBoost stereo mode.
JBL Boombox 4 price and availability
At $549.95 (approximately Rs 48,500), the Boombox 4 isn’t aiming to be everyone’s everyday speaker. But it aims to cater to those who don’t mind paying a pretty penny for seriously upgraded sound.
It begins shipping globally on September 28, ready to claim space at house parties, beaches, rooftops, anywhere that calls for a portable wall of sound. Indian launch dates, however, haven’t been revealed so far.
