JBL Grip speaker announced, and it’s about the size of an energy drink can

JBL has unveiled the Grip, a new Bluetooth speaker that’s designed to slip easily into your hand or bag. Roughly the size of a Red Bull or Monster can and weighing 385g, it’s smaller than the JBL Flip 7, but more substantial than the pocket-friendly Clip 5. Inside, you’ll find a 43 x 80mm driver pushing out 16W of power with a frequency range of 70Hz–20kHz.

To make the most of its compact frame, JBL has added AI Sound Boost, which adjusts playback in real time for louder sound with less distortion. Like its larger sibling, the Grip features a rugged fabric wrap, chunky buttons, and IP68 resistance to dust and water. It’s also designed to withstand one-metre drops onto concrete, making it a solid option for outdoor use.

Lights, battery, and connectivity

The Grip goes beyond sound with an ambient lighting system on the back, offering colour themes and adjustable brightness that can be customised via the JBL app. Battery life runs to 12 hours, with another two hours unlocked using Playtime Boost mode.

On the connectivity front, it supports Bluetooth 5.4 and Auracast, letting you pair two Grip speakers for stereo sound or connect with other Auracast-ready JBL models like the Flip 7 and Charge 6.
