Have you ever had to wait years for the next book in a series, but by the time it shows up you’ve forgotten important plot points in the previous books? You’re not alone! Be it a good ol’ Harry Potter book or the latest novel in the Empyrean series, the sheer number of years between the release of the installments will eventually leave anyone confounded about the tiny details. Thankfully, Kindle readers have a fix for this now.
Amazon has introduced a new Recaps feature for Kindle users which will help them recall vital plot points and character stories in the previous books of a series, before they pick up the latest one. These recaps will be AI-generated. The recaps will summarise important plot points for Kindle readers, so they’re never left scratching their heads, wondering why exactly the protagonist is doing and why.
Amazon Kindle is using AI to generate recaps for books in a series
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that Amazon Kindle users will soon be able to see AI-generated recaps of books in a series. The company has leveraged Generative AI and Amazon moderators to come up with coherent recaps to help readers seamlessly dive into the next book. This feature is currently limited to readers in the United States, but it should, hopefully, come to other countries soon.

Readers in the US can now view short recaps for books they’ve purchased or borrowed on Kindle, with support for thousands of English e-books in a series. Amazon plans to bring this feature to the Kindle iOS app soon too.
How to view recaps on Amazon Kindle
If you’ve got the latest Kindle software and are based in the US, you can check if a series has a recap by looking for the “View Recaps’ button on a series page in your Kindle library. There’s also a ‘View Recaps’ option within the series’ three-dot menu.
Amazon has stated that AI-generated Recaps will be available for all kinds of series – from fantasy to mystery to thrillers. So, if you’re an ardent Kindle reader in the US, you can check out this feature. For more such interesting news about the world of tech, stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma.
