How to read your personal documents on Kindle

If you own a Kindle, by now, you already know how seamless it is to zap an eBook on your device. You simply buy them from the Kindle store, and they pop up in the library. But did you know that you can access your personal documents too on your Kindle with a single tap?

Imagine how convenient an experience it would be to view any personal document on a screen bigger than your smartphone, but without turning on your laptop. This also helps you to go paperless and not take unnecessary printouts.

One-time file transfer

This is one of the quickest and easiest methods to follow. Connect your computer to the Kindle using a USB cable, and the Kindle model will appear in the File Explorer.

You’ll have to ensure that the documents that you want to read on the Kindle are in a compatible format. These include formats like .mobi, .azw, .docx or .doc, PDF, .txt, and .rtf. Drop your files into the Documents folder in the Kindle, and you are set to read your documents.

Word's Send to Kindle function

If you want to read a Word file, the simplest way to transfer it from your computer to a Kindle is by using Word’s built-in ‘Send to Kindle’ function.

Open Word for Windows or Mac and select Export from the File option. You’ll find a “Send to Kindle” option. Once you choose it, you’ll be prompted to sign into your Amazon account. Post confirmation of your Amazon account, you will find two options to choose your document form

You can adjust the font size and font style if you choose the ‘Like a Kindle book’ option. If you choose the ‘Like a printed document’ option, you won’t be able to change the document’s formatting. After a few minutes of toggling either option, you will find the document in your library.

Send using email

Did you know that as a registered Kindle user, you get a unique email address? Using this ID, you can seamlessly transfer your documents even from the convenience of your phone. Need help finding it? Follow these steps:

Step 1: Log in to your account from the browser and locate the “Kindle E-readers & Books” option from the sidebar. Go to the “Manage your content and devices” section and click “Personal Document Settings”. You can easily find the devices and installations from the “Device” tab here. On tapping the device you want to receive your personal documents, your Kindle mail ID will be revealed.

Step 2: Once you have your Kindle mail ID in place, you can attach any file with PDF, HTML, DOC, RTF, or any other compatible file formats and send.

Step 3: To send out the email, you need to authorise the mail address for reading the document on your Kindle. Again, navigate to the “Main Menu” and head to “Personal Document Settings” following the above mentioned process. This time, click on “Approved Personal Document Email List”. You will find an option to add your new email address. Add your Kindle email address, and voila! Enjoy your articles!

Following these simple ways, read your personal documents on Kindle without stress. Happy reading!
