5 reasons why you should buy an e-reader

There are two types of people in this world – those who will jump at the first opportunity to buy an e-reader online, and those who will rant against it every opportunity they get.

The romance of physical books notwithstanding, after a point even the most ardent readers tend to question the value of piling books. Enter, e-readers!

What is an e-reader?

An e-reader is a sleek, weightless handheld device that lets you store at least thousands of books, magazines, newspapers, or any other documents. E-reader screens are designed in a way so they don’t have a glare, even in direct sunlight.

The sharp display, clear text and adjustable fonts on an a e-reader, makes it possible for you to read without straining your eyes.

But, in case you’re still on the fence, here are top five e-reader benefits to help you make up your mind!

5 reasons to buy an e-reader

1. Pack your library in your pockets

E-readers are a blessing for booklovers who are always on the move. Whether you’re on a long commute, or simply having a lazy day at a remote beach, you need not be restricted to a single book. Your e-reader can pack a few hundred books (and then some) so you’ll never run out of choices.

2. Find your book in seconds

Have you ever felt that you are trying to recall a quote or a few lines about your favourite character, but you are unable to find the book or the page? With e-readers, it’s so much faster and easier to find your books or pages in seconds. Just type your keywords in, and there you go! Moreover, you can gain access to hundreds of free and paid e-reader books online in a few clicks; otherwise, you had to physically go, pick and buy or wait till your online paperback arrived!

3. Reduced eye fatigue

Mobile and tablet screens have earned a poor reputation for causing stress to the eyes. Even though manufacturers have been taking strides in making these screens eye-friendly, e-readers have always been easier on the eyes because they’re primarily designed for extended usage. As a result, even the earliest e-readers had more eye-friendly screens than the latest smartphones of the time. And they have got better over time.

E-readers today feature e-ink technology that mimics the appearance of ink on paper and lets you enjoy hours of reading without glare, eye fatigue, or screen-induced headaches. You can also adjust the font size, set the font style, adjust brightness, or even switch to a night mode.

4. Plus one to your vocabulary

If you are a language learner updating your vocabulary constantly, e-readers would be gold. You can search for the dictionary and learn about the different contexts in which the words are being used. For example, Kindles have an in-built dictionary configured for you to save the words and review them later.

5. Power-packed batteries

Unlike smartphones, e-reader batteries drain the slowest. While the best e-reader battery lasts up to two months, the average life of any e-reader battery lasts for at least two weeks of single charging.

When they first came out, e-readers sparked a debate about whether they’d replace physical books. Nearly a decade-and-a-half later, it is evident that the two can co-exist. You can keep your e-reader for heavier novels you want to bring on vacation while still stocking your bookshelves with a ton of vibrant paperbacks. In the end, reading is enjoyable no matter the format.
