Kohler, the company famous for fancy taps, has just unveiled the Dekoda, a new clip-on health tracker designed to analyse everything that lands in your toilet bowl.
This is a $599 (around Rs 52,558) gadget and it’s actually the first big splash from the brand’s new Kohler Health initiative. The company’s goal is to turn your bathroom into a “data-informed health and wellness hub”. In practice, that means the Dekoda peers into your loo with advanced optical sensors.
The Dekoda sensor clips to your toilet to analyse your waste
The Dekoda uses spectroscopy, which is a very technical way of saying it watches how light interacts with your waste, to check on your gut health and hydration levels. Then the system’s AI, which is trained on over a million data points and based on the Bristol Stool Chart, tracks the shape, consistency, and frequency of your business.
It then beams this info to the Kohler Health app, showing you trends and even a gut health score. More critically, it will discreetly notify you if it spots any blood, a key warning sign for more serious medical problems that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Kohler seems to understand this is a uniquely personal device. The company promises the “discreet optics” are angled to only see the contents of the bowl, not your nether regions. All data is also end-to-end encrypted. To figure out who is using the facilities, the Dekoda comes with a wall-mounted remote featuring a fingerprint scanner.

The main electronics live on the outside of the bowl, including a magnetic, rechargeable battery that pops off for juicing up via USB. The sensor itself clamps onto the rim of most toilets using a simple expanding mechanism, so no tools are needed.
The only catch here is that Kohler warns it will not work well with dark-coloured toilets because of the reduced lighting.
The Kohler Dekoda is up for preorder now in certain regions. An Indian launch hasn’t been announced as of yet. The hardware is just the entry fee because accessing your poo data requires a Kohler Health membership.
