If you’ve seen Lenovo’s Legion Y700 (2025) tablet, you probably thought — this thing’s practically a gaming console already. Turns out, Lenovo agrees. The company has now launched the Legion G9 controller, a snap-on gamepad custom-built for the Y700, transforming the 8.8-inch powerhouse into a full-fledged handheld.
It's easy on the pocket
At 399 yuan (around $55, which would equate to around Rs 4,800), the G9 is a precision-engineered gaming companion. With Hall effect sensors on both the triggers and joysticks, users get more durability and zero stick drift, promising up to 2 million rotations. There are also four rear macro buttons and adjustable RGB lighting to complete the competitive look and feel.
This isn’t just about aesthetics. Paired with the Y700’s blazing specs, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 165Hz refresh rate, Dolby Atmos speakers, and robust thermal cooling, the G9 turns the tablet into an Android-powered beast that can slide into a backpack but perform like a console. The Y700 even includes dual USB-C ports and expandable storage up to 2TB, reinforcing its mobile gaming chops.

What’s next? The G9 Pro. Lenovo has already confirmed it’s in the works, and it promises even more. Think optical ABXY keys for faster input and audio-based vibration feedback for immersive haptics. It’s an upgrade clearly aimed at serious gamers.
For now, the base G9 covers the essentials, and then some. It doesn’t just play games; it changes the way the Y700 is used. Think Switch portability with Android flexibility and console-grade precision.
Whether Lenovo is chasing the Steam Deck crowd or carving its own niche, one thing’s clear that the line between tablets and handheld consoles just got blurrier. Are you excited for this? Let us know in the comments below.
