Who said professional networking has to be boring?

LinkedIn may soon let you play puzzle-based games

Have you ever used LinkedIn? Like all other users, it was likely to search for new jobs, or perhaps share your professional accomplishments with your colleagues, batchmates, and other connections.

Well, what if we told you, you could soon use the platform for gaming? Surprising as it may sound, the professional-networking-focused social media platform is reportedly working on introducing games to the platform.

Gaming on LinkedIn: All you need to know

As per a TechCrunch report, LinkedIn is working on at least three new puzzle and word-based games called Queens, Inference, and Crossclimb. The games are being touted to be largely similar to Wordle, a web-based word game that took the world by storm, when it launched in October 2021. However, just how the games will work, and their objectives, remain unknown as of yet.

The move, the report says, is to make one’s job search more engaging on the platform, and also spark more conversations.

Several app researchers have reported that they have found code that points to the work LinkedIn is doing. One of them, Nima Owji, says LinkedIn appears to be experimenting with player scores. How it’s doing this, is organising those scores by places of work, with companies getting “ranked” by those scores.

Gaming on other social media platforms

It is no mystery that games in general regularly feature amongst lists of the most popular apps for smartphones, as well as laptops and desktops. This is in terms of both, revenues as well as engagement. Within those, casual puzzle-based games are one of the most popular categories in the space.

Interestingly, this is not the first time a social media platform has tapped into gaming to boost traffic. Remember Facebook games? That, however, had mixed results, having eventually been shut down in 2022, owing to a decline in gaming. How LinkedIn will fare in the space, only time will tell.
