Logitech has resurrected its light-powered keyboard line after more than a decade with the new Signature Slim Solar Plus K980. This wireless keyboard completely ditches charging cables and swappable batteries. Instead, it gets a built-in cell that recharges using any ambient light source.

A keyboard that can virtually stay powered on forever

This is enabled by the company’s Logi LightCharge technology that can slurp up power from sunlight or even a dim indoor lamp, needing a minimum of just 200 lux to get going. Once the K980 is fully juiced up, Logitech claims it can operate in complete darkness for an impressive four months.

The keyboard’s internal battery is designed to last up to 10 years, meaning you get one and forget about it. This unit is also safely user-replaceable and can get spare parts supplied via iFixit.

As for the physical details, the K980 is a full-size keyboard with a low-profile design, scissor-switch keys, and a number pad. It comes in a universal graphite colour with both Windows and macOS key labels. Mac users in North America can also grab an off-white version that strips away the Windows markings.

The K980 connects to up to three devices via Bluetooth, letting you hop between them with its Easy-Switch keys. It also supports a Logi Bolt USB receiver, though one isn’t included in the box with the standard models. The function row includes media controls, a mic mute button, and a new dedicated AI Launch key.
