Motorola has officially unleashed its Android 16 update for users in India, kicking off a phased rollout that starts with its premium Edge series smartphones. This comes a couple of months after Google rolled it out for the Pixels. For now, owners of the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, Edge 60 Fusion, and Edge 50 Pro are the first to get the new software.

The update is built around simplicity, security, and better connectivity. A standout feature is Notification Auto Grouping which promises to finally declutter your life by automatically bundling alerts from the same app.
Motorola is also introducing a new feature called Modes. This lets you personalise your phone’s behaviour for different activities like sleeping, driving, or working by controlling notifications and app settings.
Diving deeper into the system, you will find a refreshed interface and smarter settings. There is a particularly useful new battery insights page that shows detailed health statistics. New device diagnostic tools have also been added to monitor the health of your phone’s components.

Connectivity gets a solid boost with Instant Hotspot. This feature lets your tablet or Chromebook automatically connect to your phone’s hotspot without a password, provided they share the same Google account. Support for Bluetooth LE Audio devices has also been improved, which is great news for anyone using wireless audio in noisy environments.
On the security front, Moto Secure 5.5 introduces some clever tools. A Secure Power-Off function makes it harder for thieves to turn off a stolen device. The broader Advanced Protection suite offers easier access to anti-theft tools and identity checks directly from the settings menu.
Again, while the Edge series gets first dibs, other devices like the Moto Razr Ultra or the popular Moto G series will be getting Android 16 too – just a while after.
