Sony has officially announced Mukti, a first-person story exploration game developed by Mumbai-based underDOGS Studio, as part of its India Hero Project, releasing the first gameplay trailer of the game.

Set in a hauntingly atmospheric Indian museum, Mukti invites players to explore the harrowing realities of human trafficking through a series of interconnected exhibits grounded in real-world accounts.

A museum of memory and trauma

Far from a conventional narrative game, Mukti blends investigative gameplay with social commentary, guiding players through a labyrinth of personal stories and hidden truths.

“Every interaction is designed to spark empathy and provoke dialogue,” says the studio, which has worked closely with Sony to craft an experience that’s both emotionally resonant and technically refined.

The PS5 version of Mukti will feature finely tuned haptics and adaptive triggers, using the DualSense controller to convey moments of quiet tension and discovery. On the PC, the game will offer full controller support, achievements, and family sharing. Minimum specs include an Intel Core i5-9400F and GTX 1650, while recommended specs point to an i7-12700K and RTX 4060 Ti.

Mukti is proud to be part of the prestigious Sony India Hero Project,” said Vaibhav Chavan, founder and game director at underDOGS. “It reaffirmed our belief that Indian stories belong on the world stage.”

Sony’s Hero Project initiative, which supports regional studios with development and publishing resources, has helped surface titles like Lost Soul Aside in China. With Mukti, the focus turns to India, and to a narrative that refuses to look away.

In a medium often dominated by fantasy, Mukti’s commitment to real-world issues signals a bold shift. If it succeeds, it won’t just raise awareness, it could redefine what stories Indian games dare to tell.
