At MWC 2026, Lenovo has once again leaned into its reputation for showing up with hardware that feels seriously futuristic. After teasing foldable and rollable laptop concepts at CES earlier last year, the company has now unveiled the ThinkBook Modular AI PC Concept, a 14-inch laptop with a fully detachable second screen and swappable ports to match.
It is not a foldable. It is not a rollable, either. It is, instead, one of the most unapologetically modular laptops we have seen in years. Here’s everything you need to know about this concept Lenovo laptop.
ThinkBook Modular Concept: A laptop with a second screen on its lid
At first glance, the ThinkBook Modular AI PC looks like a standard 14-inch laptop. Look closer and you’ll notice a second 14-inch display mounted on the outside of the lid, facing away from the main screen. Both panels are full-size, and the rear display can be removed and repositioned depending on how you want to work.
In its default configuration, the two screens sit back-to-back. That arrangement is practical for travel and makes it easy to present content to someone sitting across the table. Whatever you see, they see too.
The real versatility appears when you start rearranging the pieces. The keyboard itself detaches and connects over Bluetooth. Remove it, slot the secondary display into its place using pogo pins, and you suddenly have a dual-screen setup stacked vertically. The result is a compact workstation with double the canvas, without needing an external monitor.

Alternatively, the second display can be placed beside the laptop like a portable monitor. A magnetically attached kickstand, stored discreetly on the underside of the chassis, props it up in landscape or portrait orientation.
It connects via cable, so there is some desk clutter involved, but it remains a workable solution for spreadsheets, timelines or keeping chat windows in view.
Crucially, the entire setup weighs around 1.36kg. That is roughly in line with many conventional 14-inch laptops, which makes this concept more convincing than the bulkier dual-screen machines that feel better suited to a permanent desk.
ThinkBook Modular Concept: Ports you can swap like earbuds
The modular approach extends beyond displays. On either side of the chassis sits a bay for interchangeable ports. USB-A, USB-C and HDMI modules can be swapped in and out depending on your needs, with the spares stored in a small case reminiscent of wireless earbuds.
It is a practical solution to a common frustration. Rather than carrying dongles, you carry the ports you actually want. Lenovo’s pogo-pin system, part of its wider Magic Bay accessory ecosystem, makes the display and keyboard swaps straightforward.

The company has confirmed that several other products announced at MWC will ship later this year. The ThinkBook Modular AI PC Concept, however, remains just that, a concept.
Still, if Lenovo is gauging appetite for genuinely flexible laptops, this one makes a compelling case that modularity might be worth revisiting. What do you think? Drop a comment to let us know.
