A pulpy Spider-Verse spinoff goes full noir

Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir swings into Prime Video this May; trailer released

Prime Video has dropped the first teaser trailer for Spider-Noir, its live-action take on the Marvel Comics Spider-Verse character, and yes, Nicolas Cage is finally putting on the trench coat for real.

Cage stars as Ben Reilly, reimagined here as an aging private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to confront his past life as the city’s only masked hero. It marks Cage’s first leading role in a TV series, and it feels like a natural extension of the hard-boiled, slightly unhinged energy he brought to the animated Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Noir premieres May 27 on Prime Video, with all episodes dropping at once for a binge release. Here’s what we know so far.

A Spider-Man story drenched in shadows

The teaser leans heavily into pulp aesthetics. We see Cage as a world-weary gumshoe navigating a city of smoke, rain-slicked streets, and moral compromises. When he suits up, it is the black-clad Spider-Noir look fans will recognise from the comics, complete with fedora and long coat.

The tagline reads, “With No Power Comes No Responsibility”, a clear twist on the franchise’s most famous mantra. It suggests this is a Spider-Man story more interested in regret and consequences than in bright-eyed heroism.

Prime Video is also offering something unusual for the release. Spider-Noir will be available in two versions. They’ve named the versions “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color”. The original comics leaned into a muted, monochrome palette, so the black-and-white presentation feels especially on brand for the character.

A stacked creative team behind the camera

Spider-Noir is produced by Sony Pictures Television for MGM+ and Prime Video. Harry Bradbeer directed and executive produced the first two episodes. Co-showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot developed the series alongside the Spider-Verse brain trust: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal.

The cast rounds out with Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson.

Between Cage’s knack for stylised intensity and the Spider-Verse team’s track record, Spider-Noir looks less like a standard superhero spinoff and more like a genre experiment wearing a webbed mask. We will see how it lands when it hits Prime Video this spring. Will you be tuning in? Drop a comment with your thoughts.
