God to War remake to Metal Gear Solid 4: Biggest announcements from PlayStation State of Play 2026

Sony’s first State of Play of 2026 ran for just over an hour and moved at a relentless pace, stacking remakes, sequels, surprise revivals and long-awaited ports back-to-back. Konami effectively staged a showcase within a showcase, Capcom delivered fresh looks at two heavy hitters, and Santa Monica Studio doubled down on Kratos in a big way.

Let’s dive deep into some of the most anticipated game announcements from the broadcast, followed by everything else that made an appearance at PlayStation State of Play 2026.

God of War Trilogy Remake

Kratos is officially going back to where it all began. Santa Monica Studio confirmed a full remake of the original God of War trilogy, with original voice actor TC Carson returning to the role. Early development means details are thin, but this is more than a light remaster. The project is being rebuilt for modern hardware rather than simply polished up.

For long-time fans, it is a chance to revisit the Greek saga with contemporary visuals and likely combat refinements. For newcomers who jumped in with the Norse era, this could finally make the original arc more accessible without digging out old hardware.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2

Konami confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 launches August 27, and the headline inclusion is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This marks the game’s first-ever port since its PS3 debut in 2008, ending years of speculation about whether it would ever escape that console.

The collection also bundles Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, while the first Master Collection receives a high-resolution update. For fans who have waited nearly two decades to replay MGS4 without wrestling with ageing hardware, this is easily one of the show’s biggest wins.

Castlevania Belmont’s Curse

Konami also revealed Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, a brand-new 2D entry developed by Motion Twin, the studio behind Dead Cells. That pedigree alone is enough to raise eyebrows.

Set to launch later this year, the game appears to lean into tight, skill-based action with modern roguelite sensibilities layered onto classic Castlevania foundations. If Motion Twin can strike the right balance between punishing combat and old-school gothic flair, this could be the revival the series has needed.

007 First Light

IO Interactive’s James Bond origin story, 007 First Light, received a new trailer and remains on track for a May 27 release. The footage suggests a globe-trotting espionage thriller that blends stealth, gadgets and cinematic set pieces.

IO’s track record with the Hitman trilogy has built trust in its approach to sandbox stealth design. Translating that to Bond, especially in an origin story format, makes First Light one of 2026’s more intriguing prospects.

Resident Evil Requiem

Capcom followed up Pragmata with a story-focused trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, which launches at the end of the month. The spotlight fell on Leon and newcomer Grace, with fresh footage of combat and a return to the Raccoon City Police Department.

The tease of revisiting that iconic location decades after Resident Evil 2 is a deliberate tug on nostalgia. Capcom has been on a strong run with the series, and Requiem looks set to continue that momentum.

God of War: Sons of Sparta

God of War: Sons of Sparta is a 2D action platformer developed by Mega Cat Studios in partnership with Santa Monica Studio. Set during Kratos’ brutal Spartan training alongside Deimos, the game blends hand-drawn pixel art with spear-and-shield combat and myth-driven abilities dubbed Gifts of Olympus. With TC Carson narrating and a clear focus on Greek-era storytelling, this is not a throwaway spin-off but a compact, canon expansion of the original saga.

Ghost of Yōtei Legends DLC

Ghost of Yōtei is getting its multiplayer future locked in early. Legends launches March 10 as a free DLC update, introducing Survival, Story missions, and large-scale Incursions that build toward boss encounters against the Yōtei Six. A Raid follows in April, signaling a structured content roadmap rather than a one-off add-on. Sony is clearly positioning Yōtei as a long-term co-op platform, not just a single-player samurai epic.

Silent Hill: Townfall

Silent Hill: Townfall finally showed substantial first-person gameplay, shifting it firmly out of teaser territory. The trailer highlights puzzle-driven exploration, stealth-heavy encounters, and a new CRTV device that functions as both narrative tool and threat detector. Combat appears tense and grounded rather than action-oriented, reinforcing Konami’s renewed focus on psychological horror.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (PC port)

Death Stranding 2 is officially heading to PC on March 19, with pre-purchases live on Steam and Epic Games Store and the port handled by Nixxes Software. The release includes ultrawide support, uncapped framerates, and modern upscaling and frame generation options, while new modes arriving with the PC version will also roll out to PS5 the same day.
