Nothing OS 4.0 is here to make AI a little less mysterious and a lot more intuitive

Nothing is putting on its best minimalist suit again with the launch of Nothing OS 4.0, its biggest platform update yet. Built on Android 16, this update isn’t just a simple facelift; it’s a whole rethink of how your phone feels in your hand and looks on your screen. Here’s everything you need to know about Nothing’s latest OS update.

Nothing OS 4.0: AI dashboard and visual overhaul

At the heart of it all is a brand-new AI dashboard that doesn’t just whisper about artificial intelligence in the background; it actually shows you which models are working behind the curtain and how often they’re called up. Nothing says this is about privacy and transparency, but it also gives your phone a bit of an “AI usage Fitbit” vibe. If you’ve ever wondered how much AI is working for you day to day, this will tell you in neat little graphs.

Visually, OS 4.0 continues Nothing’s obsession with order and calm. The lock screen clocks get a designer polish, the Quick Settings panel is neater, and the whole interface feels more consistent. There’s even an Extra Dark Mode, built to ease eye strain and save some juice when you’re scrolling late at night.

Nothing OS 4.0: Multitasking and camera smarts

Practicality hasn’t been left behind in the pursuit of aesthetic bliss. The new Pop-up View lets you run two floating apps at the same time, and with swipe gestures, you can flick them around, shrink them, or blow them up full-screen. It’s multitasking with a flourish, perfect for when you want YouTube hovering while you reply to messages or keep a map handy while booking a ride.

Photography gets its own glow-up, too. Thanks to the TrueLens Engine, the Camera and Gallery apps are now sharper, cleaner, and more creative, with fresh presets and a redesigned layout that encourages you to play instead of just point and shoot.

Under the hood, smaller quality-of-life tweaks pile up. There’s better Bluetooth and Wi-Fi handling, a more intuitive brightness slider, and a lock screen that’s learned a few new tricks with Always-On Display.

As for availability, Nothing hasn’t pinned down which of its phones will get the update first, but the open beta is coming soon, and if Nothing’s track record holds, it won’t be long before the new OS lands on devices worldwide.
