At Cloud Next ’24, Google announced its plan to integrate the Gemini LLM into smartphones later this year. Both OnePlus and Oppo will also be running Gemini Ultra-based features within their smartphones — but all towards the end of this year.

OnePlus, Oppo integration with Google Gemini: What's there to know?

The event went on to reveal how the new AI models will ‘change the way a user interacts with their device completely’. Both OnePlus and Oppo smartphones have already been in the news for introducing generative AI models in China; however, they will also be working closely with Google to incorporate AI cloud products within their new releases.

This indicates that in future, both OnePlus and Oppo devices could use artificial intelligence for various features, including summarising news articles, summarising audio, and even generating social media content.

Both smartphone makers also confirmed how they will work in tandem with Google to ensure seamless integration of Gemini with the device’s hardware, operating system, as well as the eco-system for optimum efficiency.

Apart from this, users will still have access to a host of AI-based features with these smartphones, as the brands will continue to work with various partners for an extended experience. These will also include the AI Eraser, which was launched for OnePlus 12 devices only recently.

When can you expect Gemini integration within new OnePlus and Oppo devices?

The expected date for this integration to take place remains under wraps, but Google has mentioned how it will reach users ‘later this year’. Apart from this, users may also have to wait to know which devices will make the cut. With tools such as AI Eraser in the pipeline, it may not be long before brands take on larger LLM-powered functions within updates for smartphones across all ranges.
