Sora arrives on Android with AI video tools and cameo support

OpenAI Sora’s app is now available on Android, accessible through the Play Store. The move follows the successful iOS release last month and brings the AI video creation tool to more users across select markets. Here’s all that you can do through the Sora app.

Cameos remain a central part of the experience, letting users insert themselves or friends into generated scenes through a one-time face and voice recording. The app’s limits depend on the plan, with free and Plus users getting 30 videos per day and Pro users receiving 100, while extra tokens can be bought for about Rs 350 for 10 additional generations.

Despite the excitement surrounding the release, Sora’s rapid growth has also sparked concerns. Reports highlight how hyperreal AI videos have led to misuse, including deepfakes of celebrities and copyrighted characters.

Families of well-known figures, studios and publishers have responded by demanding stronger safeguards. OpenAI has since shifted from an opt-out system to an opt-in framework for copyrighted material, aiming to address ethical and legal challenges. The company has also introduced moderation controls, teen protections and the ability for users to revoke access to their likeness.

Sora app availability

The Sora app is now accessible through the Google Play Store in seven regions including the US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. For now, OpenAI has not announced a launch timeline for Sora in India. The company has only confirmed availability in select international regions.
