A design-first phone that knows its audience

Not every phone wants to be the fastest or the most powerful. Some just want to look good, feel good, and hold their own in everyday life. The Oppo Reno 14 Pro is one of those phones.

At Rs 49,999, the Reno 14 Pro isn’t trying to muscle into the flagship arena. It’s playing a different game; built for the kind of person who notices the way glass catches the light, who prefers subtle yet classy colourways over neon gradients, and who wants a phone that will quietly turn heads. After spending some time with the Reno 14 Pro, here are our first impressions of Oppo‘s latest high-end bet.

Oppo Reno 14 Pro build and design

The phone’s frame may be flat, but the Oppo Reno 14 Pro doesn’t feel boxy or dated in any way. It’s crafted from recycled aluminium and finished with a new ‘Velvet Glass’ treatment on the back that gives it a unique, soft texture – no gloss, no fingerprints, just a clean surface that feels great in hand.

Oppo’s latest colourways, Pearl White and Titanium Grey, add to that appeal. Both colours strike a nice balance between minimal and stylish. At just 7.48mm thin and around 201g, this phone manages to stay sleek even with a massive battery under the hood.

Durability has also been stepped up. The phone boasts IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings, meaning it’s more than ready for unexpected spills, dust, or the occasional monsoon downpour.

Oppo Reno 14 Pro display

Up front, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro gets a 6.83-inch LTPS OLED screen with a crisp 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It covers the full DCI-P3 colour gamut and supports HDR10+, so content looks vivid and sharp at first look, without going overboard on saturation.

Even if you are navigating under harsh sunlight, brightness and visibility should hold up well. And with Gorilla Glass 7i protection, the display should survive daily wear and tear, but we’ll reserve our full judgement for the review.

Oppo Reno 14 Pro cameras

The triple 50MP camera setup is the standout on paper. The phone houses a 50MP wide, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP 3.5x telephoto lens, each offering versatility and excellent imaging quality. The layout feels balanced, and the addition of optical image stabilisation on both the main and telephoto cameras should help with sharper low-light shots and steadier videos. Here are some photo samples from the Oppo Reno 14 Pro.

There’s also a 50MP front-facing camera, which should make it ideal for creators or anyone doing high-quality video calls. You get a spread of AI tools too including AI Unblur, AI Recompose, Reflection Remover, and Studio mode, most of which aim to simplify editing rather than over-process your images. We’ll test their real-world usefulness in the full review.

Oppo Reno 14 Pro performance and software

Powering the device is MediaTek’s Dimensity 8450, paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. In our limited time with the phone, performance seemed to be smooth. Oppo’s dual cooling system, including a new vapour chamber and heat-dissipating materials, should help keep thermals in check as well.

ColorOS 15 brings in a handful of AI-led features like VoiceScribe, Call Assistant, and Translate, which are designed more for day-to-day convenience than showy tech demos.

Oppo Reno 14 Pro battery and charging

The 6,200mAh battery is the largest in any Reno so far, and it’s paired with 80W fast charging and 50W wireless support. This is impressive considering the phone’s slim profile. Additionally, the large battery and fast charging make for a compelling combo for anyone who hates overnight charging rituals or wants a quick power-up before heading out.

The Oppo Reno 14 Pro makes a strong first impression by focusing on design, display, and camera versatility. It’s not trying to compete spec-for-spec with gaming flagships or push aggressive benchmark numbers. Instead, it’s appealing to users who want a refined, well-built phone with enough power to handle modern life and look good doing it.
