Perplexity’s Comet AI web browser arrives on Android, iOS version coming soon

Perplexity’s Comet AI is in the news again as its AI-driven web browser is now available for Android users. Previously offered only on desktop, the newly released mobile version gives Android users early access to several advanced AI features while hinting at more additions soon. This marks the first major step in bringing the browser to a wider audience beyond desktop.

Comet AI browser on Android: Key features

The newly released Android version of the Comet AI browser brings many desktop features to mobile. Users can set Perplexity as their default search engine, ask questions about open tabs and request summaries of complex pages.

Comet’s voice mode allows hands-free interaction, letting users speak directly to the assistant while browsing. It can evaluate multiple tabs, offer explanations, recommend products based on user needs and assist with ongoing research tasks.

Beyond its AI capabilities, Comet still functions as a standard web browser. It includes a built-in ad blocker to reduce interruptions, alongside essential browsing tools.

Perplexity says more enhancements are planned in the coming weeks, including a conversational agent capable of searching across websites, shortcut creation for quicker commands and a complete password manager.

At present, Comet does not sync browsing history or bookmarks across devices, although Perplexity confirms that the feature is actively being developed.

What’s coming next

Perplexity has chosen to prioritise Android because mobile partners and device makers have shown strong interest in offering Comet on their platforms. The company also reiterated its earlier focus on addressing security concerns related to AI-powered browsing.

As the browser evolves, features first introduced on the desktop version, like long-running task handling, are expected to reach Android as well.

An iOS version is planned for a later date, expanding Comet’s reach across major mobile ecosystems.
