Sony introduces a new user interface with the launch of every generation of its gaming console. Now, the brand is reportedly testing a fresh interface update for its PlayStation 5. If this leak is anything to go by, the UI is about to get a noticeable change and it will take users back to the PS4 era.
A return to a familiar home screen layout
A Reddit user on r/PlayStation shared a photo of the supposed new UI for PS5. Before we dive deep into the details, the changes are a part of Sony’s beta testing program for a limited set of users. It’s unclear if and when the new user interface will roll out via a stable release for PlayStation 5 users.

As per the image shared by the Reddit original poster, Sony seems to be bringing back a horizontal row of icons at the very top of the screen. It will have PS Plus, PS Store, and Game Library icons.
The position of the individual game icons remain unchanged and will be located below. At first, the change seems very minor, but any PS4 user who upgraded to the latest-generation console will be able to tell the difference and how important it is.
Currently, the PS5’s UI includes ‘Games’ and ‘Media’ tabs with the former being a home to the PS Plus and PS Store along with game titles. This makes it time consuming to scroll through the options to access something specific. The Media section has multimedia and streaming apps and services.
With the new home screen UI that has a horizontal row at the top, players can quickly navigate between the PS Store, PS Plus, and Games Library with L1 and L2 DualSense buttons. Users online have been welcoming of the change and drawing comparisons to the PS4 UI.
