Pokémon Pokopia lands on Nintendo Switch 2; here’s everything you need to know before diving in

Pokémon fans have a new adventure to dive into. Pokémon Pokopia, a cozy life-simulation game developed by Game Freak and Omega Force, has officially launched on the Nintendo Switch 2 as of March 5, 2026.

Early reviews suggest the game is already making a strong impression. Pokémon Pokopia currently holds a Metascore of 88 on Metacritic, making it one of the best-reviewed releases of the year so far and, notably, the highest-rated Pokémon game to date.

Unlike traditional Pokémon adventures built around battling and collecting badges, Pokopia leans into a more relaxed pace. Players take on the role of a Ditto disguised as a human, exploring a once-thriving world that now needs rebuilding.

The goal is to restore the land, create a comfortable home, and gradually transform the area into a welcoming Pokémon utopia. Professor Tangrowth guides players through the process as they gather resources, craft furniture, and rebuild spaces designed to attract different Pokémon companions.

Limited-time Hoppip event starts this week

Now that you’re aware of the premise of Pokopia, you should note that the first in-game event will arrive just days after launch. Titled “More Spores for Hoppip”, it will run from March 10, 2:30AM IST until March 25, 2:29AM IST.

During the event, players can befriend Hoppip, the Cottonweed Pokémon, and collect special cotton spores scattered across the world. These spores can be exchanged for picnic-themed furniture items, adding another decorative layer to the homes players build.

The event also allows players to unlock Skiploom and Jumpluff, but only by using cotton spores, to create habitats for them. These Pokémon will not appear outside this limited-time event.

There is one catch. The event is only accessible in towns where the Pokémon Center has been rebuilt, meaning early players will need to progress a little before taking part. It also will not appear on Cloud Islands.

Early players can grab a Ditto-themed bonus

Players starting their Pokopia journey early can claim an exclusive Ditto rug as an in-game decoration. To receive it, players simply need to select “Get via Internet” in the Mystery Gifts menu. The option unlocks roughly 30 minutes into the game, once the early tutorial progression is complete.

The bonus is available for both digital copies and physical game-key cards and can be claimed until January 31, 2027.

Pokémon Pokopia also supports four-player multiplayer, both locally and online, allowing friends to build and explore the world together.

With its slower pace, decorating focus, and multiplayer support, Pokopia looks set to offer something a little different from the usual Pokémon formula: a calmer adventure where the biggest challenge might simply be deciding where to put that Ditto rug.
