Redmi Pad 2 launches as the first tablet with the Circle to Search AI feature

Redmi’s latest budget tablet, the Redmi Pad 2, is stepping into a crowded arena, but it’s bringing a powerful edge – AI smarts at a price point that’s nearly unheard of. In a market where AI is fast becoming table stakes, even in the budget segment,

Redmi’s new offering aims to democratise next-gen features. Priced under Rs 15,000, the Pad 2 marks an ambitious attempt to make AI-driven utility mainstream, not a luxury. Here’s a closer look at what the newly launched Redmi Pad 2 offers.

Redmi Pad 2: Price and availability

The Redmi Pad 2 starts at Rs 13,999 for the Wi-Fi-only model with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage, making it one of the most competitively priced tablets in its class. For those who prefer on-the-go connectivity, the Wi-Fi + 4G variants are priced at Rs 15,999 (6GB + 128GB) and Rs 17,999 (8GB + 256GB).

Available in two minimalist-yet-classic colour options – Blue and Grey –the tablet will go on sale from June 24 via Xiaomi’s official store, select e-commerce sites, and offline retailers.

To round off the experience, Redmi is also launching a Smart Pen (Rs 3,299) and a custom tablet cover (Rs 1,299), allowing users to gear up for both productivity and protection.

Redmi Pad 2: Everything you need to know

Despite its budget credentials, the Redmi Pad 2 doesn’t skimp on essentials, or flourish. At its core is a generous 11-inch 2.5K display with 10-bit colour depth, a 90Hz refresh rate, and 600 nits of peak brightness. Whether you’re bingeing in bed or reading during a downpour, the wet-finger touch support and TÜV Rheinland triple-eye protection certification ensure comfort and usability.

Under the hood, it’s powered by the MediaTek Helio G100-Ultra SoC, paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, offering a surprising amount of grunt for its price. It runs Android 15, layered with HyperOS 2.0, Xiaomi’s refreshed UI that prioritises performance and fluidity.

Cameras are modest but capable. You get an 8MP rear sensor and a 5MP front shooter handle casual photos and video calls. Meanwhile, a quad-speaker system with Dolby Atmos ensures a punchy audio experience that aims to punch well above its weight.

Battery life is another highlight, with a massive 9,000mAh cell and 18W fast charging, built to last through movie marathons and study sessions alike.

But it’s the AI integration that sets the Redmi Pad 2 apart. It’s the first tablet to feature Google’s Circle to Search, a tool that turns your screen into a context-aware lens for exploration. The company also claims it’s the first tablet to come packing this feature. It also comes preloaded with Gemini AI assistant, opening the door to conversational, task-oriented intelligence that’s usually reserved for far more expensive hardware.

Weighing 510g, with a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C port, the Redmi Pad 2 strikes a near-perfect balance between versatility and portability. Is it on your wishlist? Drop a comment to let us know, and stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma for the latest news in the world of tech.
