Samsung ends Android support for these Galaxy smartphones

Earlier this week, Samsung rolled out One UI 7 to eligible Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy S24 series. While some old Galaxy phones may get their latest update, a few older models could already be running on their last update.

Samsung has ended Android support for a few of its old Galaxy smartphones. This includes flagship and midrange smartphones. If you own an old Galaxy phone, you might want to upgrade, as your smartphone might be running on its last update.

These Samsung phones will no longer receive updates

Among the phones that are losing support for Android and security updates is the Galaxy S20. The 2020 flagship series, including the Galaxy S20, S20+, and the S20 Ultra, has reached the end of the road.

The last Android update for the series was Android 13, and the security patch support ends now. This is in line with its five-year update policy. When the phone arrived, it received monthly security updates, then last year, it was put to quarterly updates. Now, all of its updates have ended.

Similarly, the Galaxy A72 and the Galaxy A52 5G have also hit the end of the road. Both phones won’t get Android updates, with Android 14 being the last update for the Galaxy A52 5G. Lastly, the Galaxy A32 has also joined the list, as it won’t get any further updates.

None of these models will even get security updates, unless there’s something critical. Say, a critical vulnerability that Samsung needs to patch immediately. Only then may these models will get a security update that fixes any of the known issues.

What does this mean for the users?

Those who own the Galaxy S20 series, A72, A52 5G, and the Galaxy A32 are left with only one option. That’s to upgrade to a new device. If you are a fan of receiving the latest updates and features, then you’ll have to go with a new Samsung phone or any other Android device. Notably, new Samsung flagships get up to seven years of OS and security updates.
