Samsung launched the new Galaxy S25 series, and while the number of phones in the series remain the same, the top-of-the-line Galaxy S25 Ultra has received some notable upgrades. But how big of an upgrade it is when compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra? Let’s find out in this Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Galaxy S24 Ultra showdown.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Galaxy S24 Ultra: Design and display
The first major updates start in the design department. The Galaxy S25 Ultra drops the sharp edges for curved ones, making the overall design streamlined with the rest of the S25 models.
There’s also a titanium frame, with new Corning Gorilla Armor 2 protection. In comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a first-gen titanium frame and first-gen Gorilla Armor protection.
Coming to the display, the S25 Ultra has a slightly larger screen – 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. It has thinner bezels and up to 120Hz refresh rate support.

For comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with the same refresh rate support and slightly thicker bezels. There’s IP68 certification and an in-display fingerprint scanner on both the models.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is also lighter (218 grams), as opposed to the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 232 grams. It’s also slimmer, having an 8.2mm thickness compared to 8.6mm thickness of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Galaxy S24 Ultra: Cameras
The design and display aside, the Galaxy S25 Ultra also bring some camera upgrades. Unlike other manufacturers, Samsung is focusing on the ultra-wide sensor for a change. The setup stays the same, while the camera rings have become bolder, adding to its looks.
The quad-rear camera setup has a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP periscope sensor with a 5x optical zoom, a 10MP 3x telephoto sensor, and a new 50MP ultra-wide unit.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra, in comparison, has quad-rear camera setup, but with a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. So, expect better ultra-wide images with the new S25 Ultra. The S25 Ultra gets support for Log footage and 10-bit HDR video.
The selfie camera hasn’t changed, as both the models have a 12MP camera. The Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with a new camera-centric AI feature called ProScale, which is missing in the S24 Ultra. The feature is aimed at improving image upscaling.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Galaxy S24 Ultra: Performance, battery, software
As you’d expect the Galaxy S25 Ultra gets performance improvement, thanks to the new 3nm-based Snapdragon 8 Elite. The S24 Ultra has a 4nm-based Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which is still fast, but not the fastest anymore. Samsung has also improved the thermals in the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Both phones have up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. There’s the same 5,000mAh battery inside the S25 Ultra with 45W fast charging support. The S25 Ultra also comes with Android 15-based One UI 7 out of the box and gets seven years of OS and security updates.
The S24 Ultra boots on Android 14-based One UI 6, but it does get the same software promise. So, expect a year less of updates. What’s great about the new S25 Ultra is that it comes with Gemini Advanced and up to 2TB of cloud storage for free. That’s something the S24 Ultra misses out on.
Both phones benefit from a host of AI features on One UI 7. This also includes Google’s Circle to search for videos, audio files, URLs, and more.
To sum up the Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Galaxy S24 Ultra showdown, the former brings a minimal design, an upgraded ultra-wide camera, and a new chipset. It also has the latest Android operating system.
